The Chic Yet Comfortable French-Style Outfit Perfect for Travel

french style travel outfit

I recently returned from a fantastic trip to Spain, and because I felt so comfortable and chic in my travel outfit while on the flight, I thought it would be a great idea to share it with you—especially since one of you had suggested this topic a few months ago :). In the world of fashion, balancing style and comfort is often seen as a challenge, though I firmly believe it shouldn’t be. Deciding what to wear when traveling, be it by plane, train, or bus, can be perplexing. Thus, if you’re aiming to maintain your chic allure under any circumstances—including during your holiday or business travels—while also prioritizing comfort, I’m here to guide you. Continue reading to discover how to ensure your travel wardrobe is as stylish as it is practical and perfectly airport-ready!

So, here’s a rundown of what I wore while traveling:

  1. Maje camel cashmere cardigan adorned with golden buttons (similar to this Gucci cardigan), which is no longer available online. As an alternative, consider this Sandro half-zip sweater—it is on my wishlist and looks absolutely fantastic under a blazer! This sweater is ideal for plane travel, especially when the air conditioning is on full blast. For a chicer option, opt for this J.Crew cashmere sweater lady jacket with contrast trim. A cashmere cardigan is perfect to wear under a blazer; it’s super warm and compact enough to fold into your tote bag or carry-on luggage.
  2. Sandro’s double-breasted blazer—I purchased this blazer last year, and it has quickly become a staple in my wardrobe. I have worn it repeatedly ever since, and it has garnered numerous compliments. I opted for a size 38 to ensure it comfortably fits over knitwear and turtlenecks during cooler weather.
  3. Sézane Conrad t-shirt—My wardrobe is filled with Conrad t-shirts in a variety of colors! When traveling, I prefer wearing a T-shirt over a shirt as it’s more comfortable. Additionally, I always pack an extra T-shirt in my tote bag, just in case I need to change at the airport.
  4. Massimo Dutti wide-leg high-waist jeans, which I purchased a few years ago and absolutely adore wearing them. These jeans fall perfectly over my sneakers, and their wide-leg cut looks very chic when paired with a stylish blazer. They are incredibly comfortable for travel!
  5. The Longchamp Le Pliage Original L tote bag is my go-to travel companion! I always pack it with essentials that I wouldn’t want to put in my carry-on luggage, like my computer ;). This bag is incredibly practical because you can fold it up and tuck it into your luggage. I avoid traveling with luxurious or overly precious bags; this one is both chic and practical, making it perfect for any journey.
  6. Bobbies Paris Sanna sneakers—Sneakers are undoubtedly the most comfortable choice for traveling, particularly on long flights. For a chic look, consider a pair of white sneakers. Many stylish options are available from brands like Veja, Bobbies Paris, or Sézane. If you’re inclined towards a splash of color, the beautiful turquoise Adidas Gazelle shoes are a fantastic choice.
  7. Gemmyo Prima watch— I absolutely adore this watch, which has been on my wishlist for a year!

I was very comfortable in this outfit and felt très chic at the airport! The secret to a perfect travel outfit is that comfort is key and absolutely non-negotiable. For this reason, I recommend items like non-rigid, wide-leg jeans, a T-shirt or perhaps an oversized shirt if you prefer, and comfortable flat shoes such as sneakers or loafers.

Layering is crucial, as your outfit needs to accommodate two different climates: the one you’re leaving behind and the one you’re entering. To give you an idea, it was 10°C (50°F) in Amsterdam when I departed and 25°C (77°F) in Sevilla upon arrival. Naturally, you can adjust this outfit I’ve assembled based on your mode of transport and destination. For example, for longer flights or travels, you could opt for a silky matching ensemble like the Sézane Maxence shirt with Giorgio trousers. Or, when temperatures drop, you can switch the blazer for a wool blend cashmere coat like this gorgeous Totême oversized wool and cashmere-blend coat.

Et voilà! I hope this guide proves helpful for your next journey. Please let me know if you have any questions or if there are suggestions and recommendations you’d like to share—I would love to hear from you!
