Lacoste is a French clothing label founded in 1933 by the French tennis player René Lacoste (who became the best player in the world 1926-1927) and entrepreneur André Gillier. René Lacoste made a name for himself and even earned a nickname! Indeed, after a Davis Cup match in Boston, an American journalist baptizes René Lacoste “The Alligator” in reference to a bet between the tennis player and his coach over a crocodile suitcase. René asked his friend and stylist Robert George to sew a crocodile onto the white jackets he wore when arriving on the court. And with that, the legend began.
