Many of you responded to the survey I shared in one of my newsletters a few weeks ago, and I can’t thank you enough. Your thoughtful answers—and the lovely messages that accompanied them—truly warmed my heart :).
When asked, “What would you like to see more of in my recommendations?”, the responses were clear: more affordable and mid-range fashion pieces, additional guidance on creating well-balanced outfits, more chic-yet-casual options for everyday wear, a broader selection inclusive of all ages and body types, and above all… more capsule wardrobes! Message received, loud and clear ;).
With that in mind, I’ve decided to create capsule collections more frequently moving forward, rather than limiting them to just one per season as I’ve done in the past (though I haven’t settled on an exact schedule yet). Each capsule will be built around a specific theme—whether it’s a concept, a place, a color palette, or a particular inspiration. I’ll compose these capsules with mid-range and affordable pieces, and while I may occasionally include designer items, I’ll always provide accessible alternatives. My goal is to curate a thoughtful selection where each piece complements the others, making it easy for you to mix and match effortlessly. I’ll also include styling suggestions to help you bring each collection to life.
Today, I’m delighted to introduce a new capsule collection I’ve named “Nautical with a Twist”—perfect for this transitional period leading into spring. Picture soft, luminous tones—white, cream, beige, and camel—elevated by gentle shades of blue and deep navy, with the timeless touch of stripes, a nod to the first marinières Gabrielle Chanel introduced in 1913 when she opened her boutique in Deauville. A capsule designed to welcome spring, where every piece blends seamlessly to create effortlessly chic, everyday looks you’ll want to wear on repeat!

Bonjour, I’m Léonce—though my real name is Mathilde Pittet. I’m a French writer and creator offering a curated perspective on fashion, beauty, and lifestyle—an ode to le chic à la française. Inspired by my heritage and a passion for authenticity, my collections, intimate letters, and artful stories invite aesthetes into a world of beauty and everyday poetry. Named after my grandmother, Léonce Chenal is my personal ode to living beautifully. I'm delighted to have you join me on this journey.
I think, in the interests of the environment, that purchasing less, of higher quality, is the way to go. Even though I struggle with this sometimes! And for some of us, the mid-range is the splurge, with designer being something we’ll only ever look at admiringly and wistfully!
But in this world of fast fashion, having a series where you compare the budget, the mid-range, and the designer splurge, to show where the mid-range is worth it over the budget, and the designer worth it over the mid-range. Or if it is at all! Three blouses may look similar at first glance, but where are the differences that make a higher price worth it? Perhaps it’s natural fibers versus synthetic, so its more breathable and better for the planet. Perhaps the quality of the workmanship/construction, so it’ll last longer (better for planet and on a cost-per-wear basis, also our budgets!). Perhaps it’s a thoughtful little design detail that elevates one of them where we can take delight in the beauty. Knowing where/when to spend and where to save is important, and something that many of us who are interested in style over just fashion would find interesting and helpful.
Thank you so much, Lindsey, for this incredibly thoughtful and insightful reflection. I completely agree—buying less but better is the way to go, though it’s not always easy from a budget perspective.
My approach (if I can even call it a strategy!) is to invest in high-quality, well-made pieces when my budget allows, especially for timeless staples like coats, jackets, shoes, bags, and accessories that will last for years. But when it comes to basics, I sometimes feel that this argument is used a little too often to justify prices that are far higher than what the item is actually worth. Does a 100% cotton white t-shirt really need to cost $150? I don’t think so.
I’d love to explore this topic further in a blog post, sharing my personal thoughts and reflections. That being said, I consider myself quite libertarian in this sense—I don’t want to come across as moralizing. Sometimes, I feel like there’s a lot of pressure on consumers to ‘buy better,’ when in reality, many people simply don’t have the means to do so.
Thank you again for such a thoughtful comment—this is such an important conversation!
I really enjoy those kinds of posts ! Well done !
I really enjoyed the idea of themed outfits in the post : The Ultimate Beach Vacation Capsule Wardrobe like for a day in town, for lounging at the pool et I think it would be amazing if we could try to do more of this
Thanks you so much for your posts, always such incredible source of inspiration !
Thank you so much for your feedback, Mathilde—it’s incredibly helpful! I’ll definitely create more capsule wardrobes centered around a theme and specific occasions, as it seems like many of you really enjoy that! I truly appreciate your kind words, they mean so much and motivate me to keep going! ❤️
We are in sync today! I am wearing a marinière sweater from La Redoute, with a peek of a luscious poppy long sleeve tee, corduroy pants in bone, and my well-abused saddle-colored Chelseas. Spring is around the corner! Love the new approach–well, I loved your approach before, but this is something fresh that I think will appeal. Bises.
Oh, I love that—we’re definitely in sync today! Your outfit sounds absolutely perfect for this transitional time of year. And yes, spring is just around the corner, I can’t wait for it to arrive! I’m so happy to hear you’re enjoying the new approach, and I hope it will be even more helpful and inspiring. Bisous <3
