Last week, the Italian fashion house Max Mara presented its Resort 2025 collection inside one of the world’s most historic palaces: the Palazzo Ducale in Venice, Italy. The setting was as breathtaking as the collection itself! Among the many gorgeous outfits, the monochrome looks in camel, black, tan, and burgundy really caught my eye. I’m excited to share these with you today ;).

I’ve always been a fan of Max Mara, especially their timeless wool and cashmere coats. While diving into the Resort 2025 collection, I discovered so much about the brand’s rich history. I was impressed to learn that Ian Griffiths, the creative director, has been designing women’s ready-to-wear collections for over 30 years! Plus, the company is still owned by the Maramotti family, who founded it in 1951. It’s amazing how they’ve kept their heritage and craftsmanship alive all these years.
For this collection, Griffiths draws inspiration from the adventurous spirit of Marco Polo and the blend of Eastern and Western cultures in Venice. You can see this influence in the beautiful jacquards inspired by Byzantine mosaics and the golden curlicues of Eastern ornamentations on organzas. Silk-tasseled belts cinch sweeping cashmere coats at the waist, while collared button-downs and fitted sweaters are paired with pannier-style pants. The capes, reminiscent of traditional Tabarri cloaks worn by Venetian gentlemen in the 18th century, add a dramatic touch. And let’s not forget the stunning turban-inspired headpieces created in collaboration with legendary milliner Stephen Jones.
Several coats are part of the latest offerings from Atelier, designed by Laura Lusuardi, Max Mara’s fashion coordinator since the 1960s. The signature tones of camel, black, white, and tan, along with rich cumin and burgundy hues, are simply irresistible. The collection’s clean lines and minimalism are a breath of fresh air. I love the models’ natural makeup and wavy long hair, reminiscent of Chloé’s Pre-Falle 2024 collection, and I have a “coup de coeur” (a crush) on the pointed-toe ballet flats in black patent leather or copper. Keep scrolling to discover the ten looks I’ve selected from this collection to inspire you. You’re welcome ;)!
1. Tan Tabarro-Inspired Cape
This tan cape, inspired by the traditional Tabarro cloak worn by Venetian gentlemen in the 18th century, is absolutely sublime! The color and style are so très chic!
2. Ensemble with a Silk-Tasseled Belt
I absolutely love this ensemble; it looks as chic as it looks comfortable to wear.
3. Strapless Maxi Dress
This summer, I have a thing for minimalist maxi dresses, like this gorgeous strapless dress. It’s so simple yet sophisticated! If you love this style, I found similar options at Massimo Dutti, such as this limited edition long strapless dress and this beautiful jumpsuit with dart details from the Studio collection.
4. Burgundy Maxi Dress with Puff Sleeves
I absolutely love the beautiful burgundy tone of the dress, which features a slightly slouchy caftan silhouette. It’s gorgeous!
5. Camel Cashmere Coat with Silk-Tasseled Belt
I love the length of this coat and the style of its collar—perfect for pairing over a turtleneck. This coat reminds me of the sublime Totême Signature wool-blend coat, which has been on my wishlist for a few seasons now.
6. Camel Vest with Matching Pants
The vest and matching pants ensemble is perfect for summer in the city. This season, opt for the beautiful green Chelsea twill vest from The Frankie Shop paired with matching pleated twill wide-leg pants. Complete the look with ballet flats, like Magda Butrym’s embroidered mesh flats, or suede loafers, such as Scarosso’s Luciana loafers, et voilà!
7. Maxi Shirt-Dress with Shorts
I love the maxi shirt dress paired with shorts and pointed ballet flats—it’s a beautiful look for a summer soirée! If you like this style, I found a similar option: the Avery oversized maxi shirt dress by The Frankie Shop. Another stunning choice is this long cape with ruffles by Massimo Dutti, which can be paired with the matching strappy dress (as featured in the Look du Jour: The Chloé-Inspired Long Ruffled Dress).
8. Champagne Shirt Dress
I love this beautiful dress with golden curlicues of Eastern ornamentations. I also adore the white collars peeking out from many of the looks; it’s so chic!
9. White Cashmere Coat with Mini Dress
Cream coats have made a comeback in recent years, especially since last season when many white blazers, jackets, and coats were spotted in Paris Fashion Week street style. If you’re looking for a coat, I recommend the stunning Massimo Dutti Studio lapel collar coat or this Chloé embellished wool-blend jacket (currently on sale!). I recently bought this beautiful Sandro cropped tweed jacket (also on sale), which I absolutely love! Additionally, the bag in the photo reminds me of the Polène Mokki in taupe or chalk edition, which is gorgeous!
10. Brown “Robes de Chambre” with Silk Pants
This is definitely loungewear made chic! I adore this “robe de chambre” with its beautiful jacquards inspired by Byzantine mosaics. I also love the flowy wide-leg pants in silk or satin featured in the photo; these are my favorite pants to wear in summer. For a similar style, consider the Totême embroidered silk-twill wide-leg pants, which you can pair with the matching shirt. Complete the look with flat, strappy sandals like the chic A.Emery Jalen sandals and the Santorini basket bag by DeMellier.
