What to Wear in Paris This Fall

What to Wear in Paris This Fall

If you’re planning a little trip to Paris this fall and aren’t sure what to pack or wear to blend in with the Parisians, you’ve come to the right place! I’m French, and after living and working in Paris for several years (I’m now based in Bordeaux), I think I have a pretty good idea of what you should bring along for your Parisian adventure :).

Autumn is hands down my favorite season! It’s the perfect time to pull out those in-between-season jackets, your favorite jeans, crisp poplin shirts, cozy cashmere sweaters, and those gorgeous shoes that have been sitting in your closet all summer. Fall in Paris is often rainy (with up to nine days of rain on average in November), with mild days in September (72°F / 55°F) and October (63°F / 50°F), and cooler weather by November (52°F / 43°F).

Honestly, fall is the perfect time to visit Paris if you want to soak in the city’s vibe and experience it like a local. The streets aren’t as packed with tourists since the Parisians are back for “la rentrée” (back-to-school time). The city’s energy shifts—Parisians are always in a bit of a rush (except maybe on weekends, but even then!). So, if you’re wandering around Paris, try not to stop right in the middle of the sidewalk, or you might get a few impatient looks ;)! But all in all, it’s the ideal moment to explore the city’s famous spots and hidden gems without the crazy crowds of peak season.

Fall in Paris Capsule Wardrobe Essentials

For this Parisian capsule, I’ve put together some fun British-inspired looks: a cute lady jacket, a plaid barn jacket, a gorgeous pair of riding boots, some stylish brogues, a pop of burgundy, and a stunning orange umbrella (it reminds me of Hermès orange!). Everything you need to feel chic and comfy, whether you’re in Paris or anywhere else ;)!

  1. Marie Marot Amber light blue shirt — Nothing is more chic than a classic, high-quality light blue shirt. Pair it with any of your pants, no moderation needed!
  2. J.Crew Isabelle lady jacket — I adore this jacket! It’s stunning with a light blue or white shirt or a burgundy, black, or camel turtleneck. You have plenty of options! Add wide-leg jeans and loafers, and voilà!
  3. Massimo Dutti riding-style boots — I’ve loved this style of boots for several seasons now. They’re best worn with black skinny pants or stirrup leggings, like this pair from Mango, and an oversized shirt that falls just below the hips. Throw on a long coat or jacket to complete the look.
  4. J.Crew Long Barn Jacket™ in plaid — I wasn’t familiar with this style, being more accustomed to trench coats, but I’m in love with this British-inspired jacket! Perfect for rainy days under the gray Parisian sky.
  5. Sébline striped cotton-poplin shirt — A lovely French shirt brand that I highly recommend!
  6. Massimo Dutti high neck knit jumper — In fall and winter, I live in turtlenecks! I wear them almost daily and own them in every color. A burgundy turtleneck is super elegant under a cropped plaid jacket or a leather or suede jacket.
  7. Le Parapluie de Cherbourg Le Ville — A made-in-France umbrella that’s as chic as it gets!
  8. Massimo Dutti mid-rise wide-leg jeans / Sandro leather belt — I just bought these jeans, and I’m in love! This gorgeous leather belt is also on my wishlist.
  9. Gerard Darel Le Suzanne — A lightweight and ultra-practical bag to wear casually across your back (just avoid wearing it this way on the Paris Metro).
  10. Tod’s fringed glossed leather brogues — I’m a huge fan of Tod’s shoes. These British-inspired brogues are perfect for a masculine-feminine look. Wear them with cropped or full-length jeans or tailored trousers.

  • Being British, I love this post! I think a series on how Parisiennes interpret British, Italian etc styles and clothing/accessory items would be a really fun one.

    • Thank you so much, Lindsey! I’m happy you enjoyed the post, especially coming from a Brit! That would be such a fun idea for a series! For me, the collage had a British country-style vibe with the riding boots and plaid Barn jacket. Hopefully, I didn’t lean into too many clichés!
