The 50 Best French Pop Songs

best french pop songs

Here is my selection of the best French pop songs! Whether you want to listen to French music but you don’t know where to start or you just want to discover new French pop songs and artists, today’s post is all about actual French pop music!

French pop “la musique pop” is an umbrella term for various forms of popular music sung in the French language by French artists. Being French, I’ve put together a playlist of the best French pop songs that I currently listen to on repeat. In this playlist, you’ll find mainly French pop songs from the “nouvelle vague” or “nouvelle scène française”, performed, for the most part, in French but sometimes in English as well. All of the artists are French, except Angèle who is a Belgian singer-songwriter singing in French. Some of these French pop artists are quite famous and mainstream like Aya Nakamura, while others are lesser-known.

3 French Pop Artists You Need To Know

1. Christine And The Queens

It’s one of my favorite French pop artists! Héloïse Adélaïde Letissier, also known as Christine and the Queens, is a French singer and songwriter. Her debut album, Chaleur humaine (2014), received critical acclaim, reached number 2 on both French and UK charts, and was certified diamond in France. Her second album Chris (2018) was ranked album of the year by Clash, The Guardian, and The Independent, and placed in the top ten of nine other year-end lists. Girlfriend was recognized by Time as the song of the year.

2. Aya Nakamura

Aya Coco Danioko, also known as Aya Nakamura —her nod to the character Hiro Nakamura of the American series Heroes— is a French-Malian pop singer. She is one of the most listened to French artist in the world thanks to her hit songs Djadja and Pookie. Her 2018 album Nakamura surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify, a first for a Francophone female artist. And her third album AYA was downloaded more than 12 million times in just four days on Spotify.

3. Clara Luciani

Clara Luciani comes from a Corsican family, she grew up in Septèmes-les-Vallons, in the suburbs of Marseille. In 2017, she released her first EP, Monstre d’amour to critical acclaim. Then in 2018, Luciani released her first studio album, Sainte-Victoire, which was well received by the press. In 2022, at the 37th Victoires de la Musique, she won the prize for female artist of the year. She also won the album of the year award with Coeur, her second opus unveiled in June 2021.
