After unveiling the first chapter of its Fall/Winter 2024 collection in Paris, Hermès crossed the Atlantic to present the second chapter in New York City. The show, titled “Manhattan Rocabar,” took place on June 6 at Pier 36 in Manhattan.
For this collection, Hermès’s artistic director of women’s wear, Nadège Vanhée, drew inspiration from her time in New York City, citing its pace, energy, and timeless optimism as influences. The collection’s name, “Rocabar,” is a contraction of the English word “rug” and the French words “à barres” (meaning “striped”), referencing the traditional horse blanket in saffron-colored wool with red and blue stripes manufactured in the Hermès workshops.
The more I immerse myself in fashion, the more I appreciate the power of colors. This appreciation extends to interior design and home decor. As recent AI research shows that our world is becoming less colorful (and more monotonous), quelle joie (what a joy) it is to see so many vibrant hues in Hermès’s latest FW24 collection! The color palette ranges from cobalt blue, ginger yellow, malachite green, and vermilion red, paired with neutral tones like black, cream, brown, and the iconic Hermès orange. These combinations create sophisticated looks where colors and materials harmonize beautifully. Some outfits even defy the “3-color rule” with flair, which suggests not combining more than three colors in one outfit at a time. Vanhée plays with textures and unexpected color pairings, such as cobalt blue turtlenecks under mustard-yellow jackets or vermilion red pants with camel leather jackets.
In this collection, Hermès truly provides a lesson on mastering the art of color. I found some of these looks absolutely gorgeous, so I thought it would be interesting to dive into the color pairings for each one. I hope they inspire you to add “une touche de couleur” (a touch of color) to your wardrobe this fall! Let me know what you think ;)! Merci!
