There’s something undeniably elegant about mid-season jackets—they pull a look together effortlessly, adding that perfect final touch. This spring, I’ve handpicked a selection of the most beautiful jackets worth investing in—pieces that embody a très Français wardrobe. These pieces layer seamlessly over what you already own: a fine-knit sweater or cashmere, a turtleneck, a chunky wool knit, or even a simple long- or short-sleeved T-shirt. You can also play with layering by draping a trench coat over a blazer, casually resting on your shoulders. Très chic, Madame!
But before diving into my selection, let’s take a moment to explore the season’s trends. Which mid-season jackets should you invest in this spring for that effortless French chic look? I’ll tell you everything below ;).

1. A Timeless Yet Modern Trench Coat
First and foremost, the trench coat remains a true staple—just as I mentioned in my previous article on French spring essentials. This season, it’s getting a refresh with an A-line silhouette, slightly looser without being oversized. It’s worn unbelted at the waist and comes in a shorter length than the classic version.
The most beautiful takes on this trend? Sézane’s cult-favorite Carter and the Bobby jacket, of course. For a more affordable option, I recommend this short trench with lapels from Mango or this other version, which can be layered under a longer trench. Wear it without moderation this spring—layered over your winter or summer linen knits, or simply draped over your shoulders for that effortless, nonchalant touch over your favorite blazer :).
2. The Quilted Jacket for Classic Country Chic
For a touch of country chic this spring, I recommend a quilted jacket! This past autumn, I personally invested in this mid-season jacket: Barbour’s 30th Anniversary Oversized Liddesdale Jacket (which also comes in a shorter version here), and I’ve been wearing it non-stop in Bordeaux. While khaki has a more autumnal feel, I love this Barbour Light Sand Anise Jacket, which feels undeniably more spring-appropriate. Style it with a light blue Oxford shirt, white wide-leg or cropped straight-leg trousers, and camel leather loafers for an effortlessly chic spring look.
3. Or a More Relaxed Barn Jacket
For a style that feels a little less classic but just as chic, opt for a Barn jacket. This season, there are plenty of options at different price points. First, this beautiful Dôen Pascual Jacket, which pairs perfectly with white or classic blue denim. Mango offers a slightly more affordable alternative with this Denim parka with contrasting collar. But I think my favorite is this slightly longer ivory version in canva from J.Crew, which looks effortlessly elegant worn as a full look with white trousers and a navy striped sweater ;).
4. A Chic Little Tweed Jacket
A tweed jacket is truly the piece I love to wear as soon as the warmer days arrive—especially with light-wash relaxed jeans for that effortlessly chic, Parisian-inspired look. This season, I had a real crush on this Cream Tweed Sommers Jacket from Tuckernuck. For a more affordable alternative, this beautiful version with jewel buttons from Mango is a great option, as well as this one in soft blush tones.
5. A Camel Suede Jacket
This season, if you find yourself reaching for your favorite black leather jacket every spring, I’d suggest switching it up for a soft camel suede jacket instead. Not only is this shade incredibly chic, but it also has a way of softening your features and pairs beautifully with other colors you likely already have in your wardrobe—light blue, navy, white, beige, green, and even red or burgundy. I’m still absolutely in love with this stunning Terry Jacket from Sézane, which I’ve been raving about since last fall :)! I also really love this suede leather jacket from Mango.
