1. The Timeless Trench Coat

With its timeless details and neutral color palette, a trench coat is a prime example of a wardrobe staple that will never go out of style. It’s the perfect coat for this transitional autumn period between light jackets and heavy-duty coats and perfect for those rainy days ahead. The trench is more than just a transitional heroe: it will see you through almost every situation in any season. It’s definitely an item you can wear and hold onto forever and is one style worth investing in.
Being French, the trench coat is one of my favorite outerwear for the autumn season. If I’ve had a few different styles over the years, my ultimate favorites are Sézane’s Scott trench coat, Rosaé Paris Le Napoléon, and J.Crew’s New Icon trench.
2. The Chic Bouclé Jacket

The bouclé jacket is the perfect transitional piece for fall. Crafted from bouclé fabric, a textured yarn that adds depth and dimension, this jacket is not only visually appealing but also versatile. Its structured yet comfortable silhouette makes it an ideal choice for transitional weather, particularly in the fall. The fabric’s unique texture provides adequate warmth without being overly heavy, making it perfect for layering.
Also, its timeless design, often adorned with subtle embellishments like pearl buttons or delicate trim, effortlessly elevates any ensemble. Whether paired with a casual outfit for daytime outings or more formal attire for evening soirées, the bouclé jacket is a fall wardrobe staple that encapsulates the enduring allure of French fashion.
This season, consider opting for a slim fit and cropped bouclé jacket in classic hues (like black, white, or navy blue) with outré details and topped off with golden buttons and other embellishments. I love this stunning Sandro Cropped bouclé wool jacket and Rosaé Paris Le Nicomède. Wear it with a black or navy blue turtleneck underneath.
3. The Wool-Blend Blazer

The blazer is probably one of the hardest working pieces in the French wardrobe as it brings polish to any look. Characterized by its tailored fit and classic design, this jacket is made from a blend of wool and other fibers, offering both durability and comfort. Its clean lines and understated elegance make it a perfect pairing with a wide range of outfits, from jeans and a turtleneck to a midi skirt and shirts.
This season, power-shouldered and slightly oversized fits are trending. There are several blazers that I love this season, like this gorgeous Sandro stripy suit jacket, this Sézane Michele jacket, or this timeless Sandro houndstooth blazer.
4. The Denim Jacket

The denim jacket is an enduring staple that transcends seasons and trends and holds a special place in French chic-décontracté style. Particularly suitable for the mild temperatures of autumn, its versatile nature allows it to be effortlessly incorporated into various looks, making it an indispensable item for fall.
For a chic French twist, consider layering the denim jacket over a turtleneck sweater and pairing it with pleated tailored trousers and loafers. Alternatively, you can elevate its casual demeanor by wearing it over a knit dress, adding equestrian-style boots (I love these Tod’s Embellished leather knee boots) to complete the ensemble. I bought this stunning Sandro oversized denim jacket with rhinestones which is one of my favorite jackets for fall.
5. The Elegant Overcoat

Crafted in neutral shades like black, grey, or beige, this outerwear piece exudes a sense of timeless sophistication. Its longer length provides ample coverage and warmth, making it an ideal choice for the cooler, transitional weather of fall. To style it the Parisian way, consider pairing the overcoat with a crisp white oversized shirt, tapered jeans, and chunky loafers for a daytime look.
For an evening soirée, it can be elegantly draped over a little black dress (I love this Sandro dress with jewelry collar) and accented with Mary Janes. This fall, I have this très chic Totême Signature wool and cashmere-blend coat and this Sandro Long coat.

Many lovely items, but really…..the grey suit jacket is beyond “over-sized”. So long in the sleeve it covers her entire hand holding her purse! How is anyone to take her seriously in this outfit?
Bonjour Leonce – Comment ce va ??
I love the Boucle jacket with the jeans – even although I am in my late 60s and Disabled I love this idea so I am going to ‘steal’ it………and I have the Timeless Trenchcoat in the same colour.
Merci beaucoup
