Being a huge fan of the brand for many, many years ahead, I’ve compiled the perfect guide to help you explore the world of Diptyque’s beautiful scents. If you’re not familiar with this Parisian perfume brand yet and you’re wondering where to start, I’ve gathered a reviewed list of the best Diptyque perfumes. Whether you’re looking for a floral, woody, oriental, or chypre scent, I’ve got you covered.
About Diptyque
Diptyque is a luxury French niche perfume brand. The Parisian label is known for producing eau de parfum, eau de toilette, body cares, scented candles, and perfume oil diffusers. The brand was founded in 1961 by three singular personalities united by strong aesthetic alchemy: Christiane Montadre-Gautrot —who graduated from l’Ecole des Arts Décoratifs, Yves Coueslant —who had escaped an unlikely career in banking, and Desmond Knox-Leet —a painter. Together, they started by designing fabric and wallpaper for ultra-chic British Maisons.
The brand’s name, “Diptyque,” is French for the art history term “diptych,” which is basically an artwork consisting of two pieces or panels that together create a singular art piece that can be attached together or presented adjoining each other. Diptyque’s original boutique, still located at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris, has a door with two identical windows on either side. It opens like a two-part Italian Renaissance or Flemish master’s painting (aka diptych).
Diptyque considers the development of perfume as a creative act in its own right. Fragrance and art are integral to everything. Each perfume has its own special scene, specific memory, or imaginary journey that its corresponding drawing describes. Their scents are extremely unusual yet sophisticated, making Diptyque a go-to among loyal fans.
Eau de Toilette vs Eau de Parfum
At Diptyque, an eau de toilette sublimates the best natural raw materials. Its freshness and lightness are perfect to wear in the spring/summer season. An Eau de Parfum is more intense but is also a different interpretation of the olfactory story. The perfumer uses new ingredients or a new accord. That’s why I prefer to keep the Eau de Parfum for the autumn/winter season or for any special occasions.

1. Eau des Sens
Eau des Sens brings together all the dimensions of bitter orange, from the roots to the top of the tree, including branches, leaves, and fruit. It’s one of my favorite Diptyque perfumes for spring. If you love this fragrance, I highly recommend the Eau des Sens perfumed soap as well.
2. Do Son
Do Son is the embodiment of precious and persistent memories from a childhood spent in Indochina. Memories of flowers hovering between refreshing and enveloping. It’s one of my favorite Diptyque perfumes to wear in springtime.
3. Philosykos
Philosykos—which means “friend of the fig tree” in Greek— is an ode to the fig tree and whisks you away on the memory of a Greek summer. It’s definitely the most famous of all the Diptyque fragrances.
4. Ilio
Ilio is a tribute to the Mediterranean land bathed in light and fragrance. At the heart of the composition is an unusual fruit with fresh, juicy notes: the prickly pear. Bergamot illuminates its liveliness, while jasmine brings nuance. It’s one of my favorite Diptyque perfumes to wear in summer. It reminds me so much of my last summer vacation in Greece.
5. Tam Dao
Tam Dao is a velvety, milky scent of sandalwood burned in temples. This fragrance whisks you away on the memory of the holy forests of Indochina.
6. L’Ombre dans l’Eau
Created in 1983, L’Ombre dans l’Eau is an avant-garde perfume, one of Diptyque’s very first floral-fruity fragrances. Roses and blackcurrant berries are gathered into this perfume.
7. Fleur de Peau
Fleur de Peau is a gorgeous musk fragrance. The heart of Fleur de Peau is cottony, soft, or moist. Highlighted with iris and ambrette seed, Fleur de Peau is a delicate, comforting fragrance.
8. Eau Duelle
Eau Duelle is an ode to travel and vanilla. The vanilla at the heart of Eau Duelle takes on new aromas: luminous, addictive accents of calamus and dark, smoky nuances of cypriol. It’s one of my favorite Diptyque fragrances to wear in the winter season.
9. Eau Capitale
Eau Capitale is a lively fragrance where an excess of lush roses precedes the freshness of bergamot notes, accented by bright pink berries. It’s one of my favorite Diptyque perfumes I wear for “les grand soirs”. If you love rose notes and you’re looking for a fresh and sparkling fragrance, I recommend the Eau Rose.
10. 34 Boulevard Saint Germain
34 Boulevard Saint Germain is a creation combining velvety sandalwood and enveloping vanilla, enhanced by the freshness of pink berries. It’s definitely one of my favorite Diptyque perfumes for men.
