I don’t know if you caught it, but last week was New York Fashion Week (isn’t Semaine de la mode instantly more elegant in French?). After scrolling through thousands of street style photos, I’ve gathered a selection of the most inspiring silhouettes, along with a few personal notes and reflections on style, which I hope you’ll enjoy.
On the menu? A palette of earthy, soothing tones: beige, taupe, cream, tan, and khaki, but also shades of green; olive, moss, leaf. (In fact, this season’s green obsession inspired this week’s “Edit No. 10: From Burgundy to Green, A Parisian Autumn”). Deeper shades also made their mark, from stone hues to charcoal. Colors that rest the eye, while adding elegance and sophistication to a silhouette, celebrating a natural aesthetic. And as always, the minimalist yet polished outfits that create that (deceptive) impression of effortlessness, quietly sophisticated.
Some styling formulas worth borrowing: a cappuccino-colored midi skirt worn with sleek black riding boots, a soft stone-grey blazer layered over a sequin skirt (or was it a dress?), a long taupe knit dress draped over wide black satin trousers, or a tailored brown-grey blazer cinched neatly at the waist with leather. And perhaps, beyond the clothes, it will be the hairstyles, the shades, or the cuts that inspire you. Maybe a sharp jaw-length bob, or, on the contrary, ultra-long hair left to grow naturally, Chloé-style.
I hope these silhouettes, these tones, and these images bring you the inspiration you came here to find, or at the very least, that they transport you, if only for a moment, to the streets of New York.
