Add a Touch of Alpine-Chic to Your Winter Wardrobe

I’m spending my Christmas holidays at home in the French Alps, in Haute-Savoie, and I couldn’t be more excited! For me, the holiday season means snow, cold weather, mountains, skiing, and, of course, raclette and fondue (yes, I’m a cheese lover through and through!).

If you’re planning a winter ski trip to the French Alps, I’ve put together a little guide featuring the best (and my personal favorite) ski resorts in the region. While some of the more famous resorts like Courchevel, Megève, or Les 3 Vallées are incredibly popular during the winter season, I prefer smaller resorts with charming villages, traditional wooden chalets, and rustic lodges that have managed to preserve their authentic Alpine character — places like La Clusaz or Morzine.

But that’s not today’s blog post topic! Feeling inspired by the cozy, rustic mountain aesthetic, I wanted to create a small Alpine-chic capsule wardrobe — and share some styling tips on how to incorporate Alpine-inspired pieces into your winter wardrobe. Think Fair Isle sweaters, ultra-cozy merino or cashmere knits, snow or shearling boots, faux-fur coats, and other snug accessories. These après-ski essentials aren’t just for the slopes — they work beautifully in everyday winter outfits too. I hope this post inspires you to add a touch of Alpine chic to your winter wardrobe :)!

This post is not sponsored, and all opinions are my own. I only feature products I truly love and personally select. If you purchase through my links, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Merci!

Here are some Alpine-chic-inspired pieces I’ve selected just for you:

  1. A Fair Isle sweater —To me, this classic pattern perfectly captures the Alpine-chic vibe. I’m especially in love with this stunning Fair Isle cashmere sweater from Bogner. For a more budget-friendly option, try this beautiful beige or cream version from Varley.
  2. A faux-fur coat — I have a soft spot for faux-fur coats in winter; I already own several! This season, I’m loving this cozy version from Maje, which is clearly inspired by Totême’s iconic coat.
  3. Retro-inspired turtleneck sweaters — I’m obsessed with this AfterSki turtleneck sweater from We Norwegians. For something more classic, check out this chic chocolate-colored turtleneck from Mango.
  4. Corduroy pants — I’m in love with these flared corduroy jeans from Gerard Darel, which I featured on the blog last fall. They’ll add a retro ’70s touch to your Alpine-chic look. Since they run small, I recommend sizing up for the best fit.
  5. A suede bag — My top picks are the Oskan by Isabel Marant, the June tote by Ba&sh, and the Duo Shopper by Léo et Violette.
  6. A pair of snow boots — Snow boots are my go-to winter shoes for cold or snowy days, even in the city! I love these white snow boots from Moon Boot and this stylish pair from Bobbies Paris.
  7. Cozy socks — Keep your feet warm with Varley’s Primrose plush cable-knit socks.
  8. Shearling mittens — I’m obsessed with these shearling mittens from the Parisian brand Yves Salomon. I bought a pair last winter and highly recommend them! They’re perfect for keeping your hands warm when temperatures dip below freezing.
  9. A snow-white knit sweater — This gorgeous wool-blend sweater from Bogner reminds me of fresh Alpine snow with its pure, soft texture. Other beautiful options include Varley’s Mondain cable-knit or this luxe cashmere version from J.Crew.
  10. Stirrup leggings — Swap out your jeans this winter for stirrup leggings! Go for this elegant white pair from Bogner or this sleek black version from Leset, perfect for pairing with a long cozy sweater.
  11. A winter-inspired scent — Capture the scent of a ski holiday with Grand Chalet by Astier de Villatte. Its notes of linden blossoms, mimosa flowers, green leaves, bergamot, heliotrope, sandalwood, and musk evoke the cozy, nostalgic feel of Balthus’ legendary chalet nestled high in the Swiss Alps.

Léonce’s Style Tips for Wearing Alpine-Chic in the City

Incorporating Alpine-chic pieces into your winter wardrobe, even in the city, is easier than you think! Try pairing a Fair Isle sweater or a retro-inspired turtleneck with classic straight-leg or wide-leg jeans, layered under a long wool coat or a velvet blazer. Complete the look with loafers, Chelsea boots, or even snow boots for colder days. A faux-fur coat also works beautifully with classic jeans or flared corduroy pants, paired with a cozy turtleneck for an effortlessly chic winter outfit.

For a more modern twist, swap your jeans for stirrup leggings and style them with a slightly longer white cable-knit sweater, a long wool coat, and stylish snow boots. The key is to keep your outfit’s foundation simple — think classic jeans or leggings — and then elevate the look with playful Alpine-inspired pieces like cozy knits, faux-fur coats, or rustic accessories. This mix keeps you warm and chic while capturing the cozy, elevated charm of the Alps, perfect for city life ;)! À la prochaine!
