The French Winter Capsule Wardrobe

The weather here in Bordeaux is still quite mild for December, with highs around 15°C/59°F. Having gotten used to much harsher winters during my four years in Amsterdam, I must admit it feels strange. And, believe it or not, I actually miss Amsterdam’s bitter winter cold! It’s funny how we think we like certain things until we experience them, only to realize they were just illusions :).

But I digress! All of this to say that this year’s French winter capsule wardrobe is arriving a bit later than usual because, truthfully, it doesn’t feel much like winter here. Dreaming of a proper winter—cold, snowy, and crisp—has inspired me to gravitate toward white this season. White is having a moment, and it’s appearing more and more in collections from various brands. Think wool or faux-fur coats, cozy wool or cashmere sweaters, winter accessories like hats, scarves, and gloves, long knit dresses, and even leather or boucle bags and patent shoes. I find white brings a refreshing brightness to a winter wardrobe and pairs beautifully with classic winter tones like black, navy, burgundy (a major trend this season), camel, brown, and beige.

So don’t be surprised if this capsule feels a little less colorful than usual ;)! I hope it inspires you and gives you ideas to add, perhaps, a touch of white to your own winter wardrobe.

  1. Rosaé Paris Le Rodrigue Champagne Sparkles – Tie this stunning shirt at the front or the back, your choice! Pair it with a cozy white sweater like Le Chopin in Chantilly for a chic layered look.
  2. Sézane Mélanie jumper – How could you resist snuggling into this gorgeous ultra-soft kid mohair knit sweater from Sézane?
  3. Tagliatore Hennie coat – Nothing is more elegant in winter than a long, ivory wool coat! I adore this stunning coat made from virgin wool and cashmere by the Italian brand Tagliatore. The color is absolutely exquisite! Other great winter options include this long wool coat from Sandro or this one from Ba&sh.
  4. Borsalino brushed felt hat
  5. Ba&sh June tote bag – I’m in love with this hobo tote bag, inspired by Chanel’s iconic 22 bag.
  6. Agnelle Kate leather gloves – A few years ago, my partner gifted me a pair of gloves from the French brand Agnelle, and I still adore them! They’re timeless and so luxurious.
  7. Ba&sh Vinie coat – Last year, I invested in a stunning shearling coat from Ba&sh, and it was one of my best winter purchases! Another great option this season is this faux-fur jacket from Sandro, perfect for layering over chunky knits and a cozy scarf.
  8. Gianvito Rossi suede over-the-knee boots – These gorgeous suede boots are a dream! Pair them with a white knit maxi dress for an effortlessly chic look. Another great choice: these Anaelle thigh high boots from Sézane.

  10. Ba&sh Aron sweater – I absolutely adore this sweater, it’s currently on my wishlist!

  • Leonce! I am moving to a much colder climate ( Seattle, WA) in just a week! I am struggling with every day shoes and house slippers for the cold. I have Mou and of course some dreaded Ugg boot, but they are so unattractive but I find myself slipping into them for comfort. Any ideas?

  • I enjoy reading your comments and your choices of garments and accesories are enjoyable to see. If you ever discover the new perfect perfume, please share with us. I was a fan of Norell’s until it was discontinued. A frehch perfumier I understand created the new Norell whicch is spectacular. I also liked almost anything by Anike Goutal and countless other french ones over the years. When you do I trust your taste will be Perfect.

    • Thank you so much Alicia for your lovely comment! I didn’t know about Norell before, and now I’m very curious to explore it :). My partner recently gifted me Goutal’s discovery set, and I must say I completely agree with you—each fragrance is beautifully crafted, feminine, and unique. I especially loved Rose Pompon (surprisingly, since I’m usually not drawn to rose scents) and Tenue de Soirée.

I’ve only just started exploring a few perfumes from Oriza L. Legrand and plan to order more sample sets after the holidays. If you enjoy warm, musky scents, I highly recommend Musc K by Sonia Constant or Fleur de Peau by Diptyque. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with violet-based fragrances and plan to visit Guerlain soon to try some of their iconic violet scents: L’Heure Bleue, Insolence, and Après l’Ondée. Let me know if you have any other recommendations on your side, I’d love to hear about your favorites! xo

  • There are so many possible options with this collection and they are ageless and would suit all age groups with slight tweaks to the heel height etc. Warm, cosy but so stylish. Love these.

  • I love these pieces – but once again – my problem is being disabled and my age – 67. I am also a UK size 16 on the bottom and 18 on top. Please any advise you can give would be very much appreciated.

    • Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts Denise! Style is truly for everyone, and I believe with a few tweaks, these pieces can work beautifully for you. I’ll make sure to include more tips tailored to different needs and body types in future posts 🙂

  • These are some gorgeous pieces! I especially love that many of these items can also be transitioned into a spring, fall, or even summer wardrobe as well.
