Best Beauty Products: January 2019

Welcome to my favorite beauty products, a monthly feature in which I’m sharing my favorite products that I’ve tested this month. They’re the best things I’ve tried all month long before having the opportunity to get sick of them and moving on to something new.

In January, I kept a very minimalist skincare routine (cleanser, toner, moisturizer). I just added to this basic skincare routine a new brightening serum to reduce the appearance of acne scars around my chin. I replaced the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Sensitive Fluide that I used to love, by a moisturizer with a cleaner formula. I went back to basic by using the Bioderma Sensibio H2O, and I’ve tried new makeup from Laura Mercier. Finally, I found the perfect biodegradable, versatile and effective soap that doesn’t leave my skin dry and itchy!

Bioderma – Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution

I think now, it’s no news for you how much I love Bioderma Sensibion H2O micelle solution. Specially formulated for sensitive, normal to dry skins, the Sensibio H2O micelle solution gently cleanses face and eyes. The micelles contained in its formula effectively micro-emulsify impurities while maintaining the skin’s balance (soap-free, physiological pH). Soothing and decongesting active ingredients prevent the feelings of irritation often caused by cleansing. I use Sensibio H2O in the evening to remove all make-up and impurities. Even if it’s said that Sensibio H2O needs no rinsing, I’m still using Avene Thermal Water or La Roche-Posay Serozinc with a cotton pad to rinse it. It’s really perfect for those like me who experience skin irritation and redness when using conventional soap-based cleansers (made with industrial surfactants). The cleanser removes impurities using micelles, which micro-emulsify impurities while maintaining the skin’s balance. Added decongesting active ingredients prevent irritation, making the skin feel instantly refreshed, perfectly clean and free from all make-up.

Clarins – Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream with Natural Microbeads

This month, I really liked to use Clarins’s Gentle Refiner Exfoliating cream; a creamy exfoliator that lifts away impurities and dulling dead cells from the skin. The natural microbeads make a clean sweep of dull, flaky surface cells while tightening pores and preparing skin for natural renewal. It deeply cleanses the skin whilst tightening pores and softening, smoothing and refining the texture of complexion. I suggest using it once or twice a month, in order to avoid over-exfoliating.

Antipodes – Apostle Organic Facial Serum

I really love this serum! Since my skin is clear, I’ve been looking for a serum to minimize the appearance of acne scar around my chin. This serum is perfect for that! This water-based serum helps correct dull, blemished or uneven skin. The antioxidant Vinanza Grape & Kiwi helps minimize the appearance of facial redness. Exfoliating enzymes from the superfruit kiwifruit and soothing Vinanza Oxifend from pinot noir grapes leave skin gloriously glowing, and mamaku black fern boosts healthy cell renewal for true, fresh-faced beauty. I’m using this serum in the morning and evening before my moisturizer.

Antipodes – Manuka Honey Natural Day Cream

Since I’ve finished La Roche-Posay Toleriane Sensitive fluide, I’ve been looking for the cleanest version of this hydrating cream for combination, acne-prone skin. And I think I found it! Manuka Honey Natural Day Cream is an amazing cream for most skin conditions, especially oily. World-famous manuka honey, renowned for its health benefits with natural antibacterial properties, helps address any skin blemishes. Vinanza antioxidants from grape seeds and kiwi work with peony flower for the ultimate skin-bright finish, and bee venom and mamaku black fern provide a gentle lifting effect. An amazing day cream for combination, oily, blemish-prone skins.

Laura Mercier – Tinted Moisturizer

Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer is really amazing! The lightweight, moisturizing formula adds a soft hint of color that evens and enhances skin without hiding it. I’m using this tinted moisturizer in place of foundation for an effortless, natural dewy complexion with a fresh glow. This tinted moisturizer delivers advanced skin-caring benefits: sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) hydrates and softens fine, dry lines and broad spectrum SPF 20 UVB/UVA sunscreen, vitamins C and E help protect skin from the damaging effects of the environment. The coverage is really, really light so I will recommend using it in combination with concealer if you have redness, acne scars or blemishes to cover. I just place a small amount on the back of my hand and I apply with fingertips by focusing on one area at a time. The texture is very liquid but very easy to blend, I really love the natural finish. Perfect for a no-makeup makeup look!

Laura Mercier – Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer

I love Laura Mercier’s Flawless fusion concealer, it’s a medium to full coverage concealer that flexes with skin to seamlessly conceal under eye darkness, discolorations and imperfections (redness, acne scars etc.). This lightweight formula offers really good coverage whilst feeling undetectable on the skin. And, the most important thing: this concealer doesn’t crease and the finish is really natural if you use the right amount of product. I use one small spot of the product under the eyes and I gently press and blend with fingertips. Fine lines are smooth, my under eye circles are concealed and the result is really natural!

Laura Mercier – Caviar Stick Eye Colour

In the quest of the perfect no-makeup makeup look, I was looking for a very easy eyeshadow to blend and to wear. Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick Eye Colour is perfect for that! This extremely versatile eyeshadow stick delivers effortless application, intense, buildable color and up to 12-hour wear. Pigment-rich shades in creamy shimmer and matte finishes glide seamlessly onto the lids, staying crease and transfer-resistant. I’m a huge fan of these Caviar Stick Eye Colour, as the formulation allows you to create any look. For a natural look, I have chosen the color Rose Gold. I apply directly all over the eyelid, then I just blend with fingertips. So easy!

Dr. Bronner’s Rose Pure Castile Soap

As many of conventional soaps cause dry skin, itchiness, and eczema, I’m always looking for soaps with a very clean and gentle formulation. Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Soap ticks all the boxes; it smells good and leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh. I haven’t had any skin reactions of eczema. Dr. Bronner’s is an 18-in-1 soap; this soap is good for just about any cleaning task (face, body, hair, dishes, laundry etc.) Rose Pure-Castile Liquid Soap is concentrated, biodegradable, versatile and effective. Made with organic and certified fair trade ingredients, packaged in a 100% recycled bottle.
